This British Standard exists so drivers are never put back on the road on a damaged tyre. A repair is only valid when the damage sits within the central three quarters of the tread and the hole is no wider than 6mm. Outside those limits, a mobile tyre fitting replacement is the only legal option.
We remove the tyre from the rim and inspect the inner liner, not just the surface damage. A tyre driven flat even briefly can have shredded steel belts inside that are completely invisible from outside. Catching this early keeps you safe and saves you from a far bigger bill, in case of an emergency tyre callout.
An external plug alone does not meet BS AU 159. It masks the damage without addressing it, and it can fail weeks later at motorway speeds. Every repair we carry out uses an internal patch method, which means your tyre is genuinely safe for its full remaining life.
